Lakers stun Warriors, Spurs claim win
The Golden State Warriors suffered a surprise NBA loss as the San Antonio Spurs’ fine start to the season continued.
A day after crushing the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Warriors went down to the Los Angeles Lakers 117-97 on Friday.
The Spurs had no such problems against the Utah Jazz as Kawhi Leonard led them to a 100-86 victory.
The Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans, meanwhile, saw their winless starts to the season continue.
WARRIORS DOWNED
The Warriors were surprise losers as they were beaten by the Lakers despite 27 points from Kevin Durant.
Stephen Curry had a double-double of 13 points and 11 assists but went 0-for-10 from three-point range.
It ended Curry’s record streak of 157 straight games with a three-pointer made.
The Lakers had an even contribution, with Julius Randle leading the way with his 20 points and 14 rebounds.
SOLID SPURS
The Spurs improved to 5-1 on the back of a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds from Leonard.
LaMarcus Aldridge (19 points) and Patty Mills (16) also had double-digits in points.
The Spurs never looked back after making a strong start, outscoring the Jazz 27-17 in the first quarter.
MAVERICKS, PELICANS WINLESS
The Mavericks slipped to a fifth loss as they went down to the Portland Trail Blazers 105-95.
Damian Lillard led the Trail Blazers with 42 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The Pelicans are 0-6 after suffering a 112-111 overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns.

BULLS BEATEN
Dwyane Wade had 35 points and 10 rebounds, but the Chicago Bulls were beaten by the New York Knicks 117-104. On his return to Chicago, Derrick Rose had 15 points and 11 assists.
The Los Angeles Clippers were too good for the Memphis Grizzlies 99-88, the Charlotte Hornets edged the Brooklyn Nets 99-95 and DeMar DeRozan (34 points) inspired the Toronto Raptors to a 96-87 win over the Miami Heat.
The Washington Wizards claimed their first win of the season, overcoming the Atlanta Hawks 95-92.
THUNDER, CAVS IN ACTION AS SPURS FACE CLIPPERS
The Thunder (4-1) are back in action with a clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves (1-3), while the 5-0 Cleveland Cavaliers take on the 0-4 Philadelphia 76ers.
The Spurs (5-1) welcome the Clippers (4-1) to the AT&T Center.
