LeBron James Becomes First Male Athlete to Be Made into a Ken Doll
Basketball legend LeBron James has become the first professional male athlete to be turned into a Ken doll.
Mattel Inc., the company behind Barbie and Ken, revealed the new LeBron Ken doll on Wednesday. It is the first in their new “Kenbassador” series. Last year, Mattel released nine Barbie dolls of famous female athletes, including tennis star Venus Williams.
LeBron said he felt honoured to be part of the project.
“As a kid, I had role models who showed me what’s possible with hard work and dedication,” he said.
“Now, I know how important it is for young people to have someone to look up to. This Ken doll is a chance to inspire children, give them confidence, and show them they can achieve greatness too.”
The LeBron Ken doll is dressed in sunglasses, headphones, and a blue-and-white letterman jacket. The jacket has “LJ” on the chest, his number 23 on the sleeve, and patches showing Ohio and a crown. On the back, it says “LeBron” with the words “Just a kid from Akron” underneath – a nod to his hometown.
He also wears a T-shirt that says “We Are Family”, a message from the LeBron James Family Foundation, and blue Nike shoes.
