LeBron James Joins Philadelphia 76ers on Two-Year Deal
LeBron James has officially joined the Philadelphia 76ers, bringing an end to his eight-year spell with the Los Angeles Lakers as he prepares for his 24th NBA season.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer announced the move on Friday, confirming that he had agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option.
The deal marks what James described as the “last decision” of his illustrious career as he continues his pursuit of a fifth NBA championship.
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” James wrote on social media. “This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family… I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.”
The 41-year-old chose Philadelphia after weighing several options in free agency and believes the 76ers offered him the best opportunity to compete for another NBA title.
James joins a star-studded roster that has Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and head coach Nick Nurse.
Last season, James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds while helping Los Angeles reach the second round of the playoffs.
The move opens a new chapter in one of basketball’s greatest careers. James is set to become the first player in NBA history to play a 24th season.
