LeBron James Reacts as Chris Paul Announces Plan to Retire After Season

Chris Paul is set to retire at the end of the 2025–26 NBA season, according to several reports — and LeBron James has already shared his reaction.

The 40-year-old point guard hinted at his decision on Saturday morning with a message on X, writing:
“What a ride… Still so much left… GRATEFUL for this last one!!”

Paul and the Los Angeles Clippers were in North Carolina, his home state, to face the Charlotte Hornets later that day. The 12-time All-Star played 23 minutes in the Clippers’ 131–116 win, finishing with three points, eight assists and four rebounds.

Shams Charania confirmed the news, saying Paul will call time on his career after 21 seasons in the NBA. Paul’s achievements include 12 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA team appearances, nine All-Defence honours and the 2006 Rookie of the Year award.

Soon after the reports came out, LeBron James posted a short but powerful tribute to his long-time friend and rival.
On Instagram, James wrote:
“POINT GOD!!! Been a helluva ride.”

James’ message highlights the huge respect between the two stars, who have shared more than two decades competing at the top of the NBA. Paul’s retirement will mark the end of one of basketball’s most celebrated careers.
