Leeds United still keen on Carpi’s Nigerian striker Jerry Mbakogu?

Leeds United have been given a boost in their attempts to sign Carpi striker Jerry Mbakogu during the summer transfer window.

The Yorkshire giants have previously held an interest in Mbakogu but a transfer had been in doubt due to the Nigerian potentially struggling to secure a work permit due a lack of international appearances.

However, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds remain keen to push through a deal with the 25-year-old now being given Italian citizenship having moved to the country at an early age.

Leeds are now expected to push ahead with a £4m deal with Carpi looking unlikely to claim a place back in Serie A after a poor campaign at Italy’s second tier.

Mbakogu has scored six goals in 23 appearances in Serie B this season.
