Lewis Hamilton reveals if he feels pressure ahead of Australian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton says he does not feel under pressure to prove himself as he begins his Ferrari career at the Australian Grand Prix.

The seven-time champion left Mercedes after 12 years, where they became the most successful team-driver combination in Formula 1 history.

The 40-year-old British driver won six of his titles between 2014 and 2020 but has only won two races since the start of the 2022 season.

Speaking in Melbourne, Hamilton said: “I am under no illusions that it will be easy. I don’t feel the pressure. The outside pressure doesn’t affect me. The pressure comes from within, and what I want to achieve.

“I’m not here to prove anything to anyone. I’ve done that many times before. I know what it takes to do a good job, and that’s what I want to do, for myself, my family, and this team, who I truly believe deserve success.

“They are so driven, and maybe they haven’t had as much success as they’d like or deserve. I just want to help them get there.”

When asked what success would look like, Hamilton replied: “I’m just focusing on the work ahead.”

Hamilton was calm and smiling as he spoke to the media at the Thursday press conference, showing the same positive attitude he’s had since joining Ferrari.

He called this period preparing for his Ferrari debut “the most exciting time of my life. I’m really enjoying it, and I can’t wait to get in the car.”

Hamilton also said he thinks the competition this season will be close between Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes.

He added that he still had work to do to reach his best at Ferrari, as he was still adjusting to the team and the car.

“I’m still learning this new car, which is quite different from what I’ve driven throughout my career,” he said. “Ferrari power feels different after so many years with Mercedes.”

“The sooner I can perform at a high level, the better, but there’s always a transition period. Building relationships, trust with everyone. Respect is given, but trust is earned over time.”

“I’ve had some not-so-great years, and I’m focused on making sure this one is better. But there are many factors that will contribute to that.”
