Lionel Messi breaks Silence after World Cup Final Defeat

Lionel Messi has shared his first message since Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, to thank his supporters.

The Argentina captain admitted the pain of losing the final remains fresh but chose to focus on what the team achieved throughout the tournament.

“The pain is very great, and it will take time for this wound to heal. But I also choose to keep all the good things… the matches we played, giving everything we had, and the memories that will stay with us forever.”

Messi also praised the effort of his teammates, praising Argentina’s achievement of reaching a second consecutive World Cup final.

“Today it’s difficult to appreciate what we achieved, but this group reached two consecutive World Cup finals.”

The 39-year-old went on to thank the Argentine fans for their unwavering support throughout the competition.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every greeting and every message. Once again, we managed to come together as a country and share the immense pride of being Argentine.”

Messi ended his message by congratulating Spain on lifting the World Cup.

“I also want to congratulate Spain on the championship.”
