Lionel Messi scored in his fifth straight game for new club Inter Miami in a convincing 4-0 Leagues Cup win over Charlotte.
Messi scored the fourth goal of the quarter-final match for Inter Miami whose thumping win over Charlotte mean they are in the semi-finals of the Leagues Cup.
Since his arrival on a free transfer, Messi has led a turnaround in fortunes for Inter who have walked off winners in all five matchups so far in the Leagues Cup, a 47-team event composed of clubs from MLS and Mexico’s top league, the Liga MX.
Up next, for Messi and Inter Miami is a semifinal game on Tuesday against either Mexican club Queretaro or MLS outfit Philadelphia Union.
Against Charlotte, Josef Martinez and Robert Taylor fired pink cladded Inter Miami two goals up before an own goal set up by some serious Messi pressure late in the second made it 3-0.
With less than five minutes to the end of the match, it looked like Messi’s goal-scoring streak will be clipped but the number 10 struck a perfect clincher to extend the streak to five in five.
His eight goal of the competition, Argentine Superstar Lionel Messi tops the goal-scorers chart, further evidence of his sparkling start to life at Inter Miami.
The 2022 World Cup winner and his Inter teammates will now look forward to victory in the last-4 to push their ambition of title success.

The first edition of the Leagues Cup took place in July 2019 with four teams selected teams from the Major League Soccer – MLS and Liga MX competing for honours.
The 2019 edition was a single-elimination tournament hosted in the US with a final played in Las Vegas on September 18, 2019.
