Liverpool set to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai

Reds set to make Hungary international second summer signing

Liverpool have agreed a deal with RB Leipzig to sign 22-year-old midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai this summer, having triggered his release clause of £60m.

The Reds were keen on adding quality to their midfield this summer, having lost Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo this summer after failing to renew their contracts.

Szoboszlai enjoyed a successful 2022-23 season with Leipzig, helping them win a second consecutive DFB Pokal crown. The Hungarian scored ten goals in 48 appearances for the German club.

After negotiations between both sides, Liverpool have chosen to trigger his release clause of £60m after convincing him to join them this summer. He will now undergo his medicals and be unveiled as a new Liverpool player.

Szoboszlai will become their second summer acquisition after they signed 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister from Brighton for around £35m earlier in the summer. They also sent youngster Fabio Carvalho on a season-long loan to Leipzig this summer.

Liverpool failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in 2022-23 and will be keen to return to their place among Europe’s elites as soon as possible. The addition of the talented playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai will raise the level of their squad further.
