Lobi Stars coach absolves players of blame, mentions why his team lost to Sunshine Stars

Head Coach of Lobi Stars, Eugene Agagbe, has absolved his players of blame, instead hailing them for their fighting spirit despite the defeat to Sunshine Stars in a Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 22 game.

The Owena Whales capitalized on the red card issued to John Lazarus in the 14th minute to secure their first victory under Kennedy Boboye, with goals coming from Vincent Temitope from the spot and Chidozie Iwunda.

In his post-match interview, Agagbe mentioned that the early red card decision unsettled his side, leading to the concession of two quick goals. However, he praised his team’s second-half performance, emphasizing their resilience and focus despite playing with ten men.

Looking ahead, Agagbe stated that his focus has shifted to the next game against Katsina United, with the aim of bouncing back to winning ways. He affirmed the team’s commitment to working harder to achieve their objectives.

He said, “Normally, when you come into a game, you have your plans, but situations changed at the end of the day. We were two goals down and got the red card early, which frustrated us. We lost focus at that time and conceded two quick goals. However, later in the second half, the team remained focused with ten men and showed a very good fighting spirit till the end.

“We will continue to work harder. This match is behind us now, and I am looking ahead to the game against Katsina United in Lafia, planning on how to secure three points.”

Lobi Stars will face Katsina United in their next game at the Lafia Stadium as they continue their push for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title at the end of the 2023/2024 season .

Last year, the Benue state government funded club reach the Super Six playoffs but failed to finish among the best three.
