Lobi Stars players go on strike over unpaid salaries

Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) side Lobi Stars FC is grappling with internal turmoil as its players have initiated a strike in protest against the prolonged delay in salary payments.

Reports indicate that the players have been enduring financial strain, with their salaries unpaid for the past two months.

Frustrated by the situation, the players have collectively decided to stay away from training sessions and abstain from participating in any club-related activities until their outstanding dues are settled.

The standoff comes at a challenging time for the Makurdi-based NPFL club, as they have witnessed a decline in performance, slipping out of contention in the title race due to a string of unfavorable results.

As it stands, Coach Eugene Agagbe’s tutored Lobi Stars are placed in fifth position on the league table, having accumulated 52 points from 32 matches.

This represents a drastic decline in fortune for a team that led the standings for a significant part of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

The timing of the players’ protest adds additional pressure to the club’s management, particularly as the NPFL is currently on a one-month hiatus.

At the time of this report, the club management has yet to react to news of the players’ action and efforts towards addressing the same.
