Luis Suarez set to make announcement about future in coming days
Gremio striker set to leave Brazilian club
Uruguayan legend Luis Suarez is poised to make an announcement about his future in the coming days, according to reports coming out of Brazil.
Former Barcelona and Liverpool striker Suarez has enjoyed a fruitful career, winning league title at Ajax, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The 36-year-old striker joined Brazilian outfit Gremio in January 2023 following his country’s group stage exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He had played in his boyhood club Nacional for six months prior to moving to Brazil.
Suarez has revealed that he faces unbearable pain in his knee due to niggling injuries, and may have to retire soon. The striker, however, previously revealed that he intended to play alongside Lionel Messi once more before calling time on his career. Gremio reportedly intend to make him sign an agreement to not join Messi at Inter Miami if he terminates his contract with them this summer.
El Pistolero, as Suarez is known, has scored 11 goals in 25 appearances since moving to Gremio despite his injury challenges. He also scored eight goals in 20 appearances for Nacional in his brief spell at the club.
Suarez is coming to the end of his career and may be keen to spend the last few months in Miami with close friend Messi as the MLS season resumes in July. The 36-year-old will announce in the coming days whether he chooses to retire or continue his career.
