Madugu Confirms Rasheedat Ajibade as Super Falcons Captain for WAFCON
Super Falcons coach Justin Madugu has confirmed that Rasheedat Ajibade will be the captain of the Nigerian women’s football team for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The tournament will take place in Morocco from 5th to 26th July. Nigeria is in Group B, along with Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
Nigeria, who have already won the tournament nine times, are aiming for a tenth title after missing out last time. However, the team’s preparations have not gone smoothly. They have only played one match since November 2023 — a 2-0 win in a friendly against Cameroon.
There had been some questions about who would lead the team, as several senior players were in the running. Defender Osinachi Ohale and striker Asisat Oshoala were among the top names, along with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and forward Francesca Ordega.
Now, coach Madugu has ended the speculation.
“Rasheedat (Ajibade) is the official captain of the Super Falcons,” he told *Sports Zone*.
Ajibade will now lead the team as they try to make history once again in Morocco.
