Maduka Okoye gets appointment after visit to Enugu State Governor
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been appointed an Ambassador of Enugu State after visiting the Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
Okoye, who plays for Serie A side Udinese, is currently spending his holidays in Nigeria for the first time. During his visit to the Government House at the Lion Building in Enugu, he shared his plans to give back to society through sports and humanitarian initiatives.
Reacting to the visit, Governor Mbah described Okoye as “a true son of Enugu” and expressed pride in the goalkeeper’s achievements both at national and global levels.
“Today, I had the pleasure of receiving the Super Eagles and Udinese star goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, at the Lion Building,” the Governor wrote on his official social media page.
“Maduka is not just making us proud, he is also poised to give back. He shared his vision to launch a charitable foundation and establish a football academy here in Enugu to inspire young talents, nurture future stars, and touch lives.”
In recognition of his contributions and commitment to youth development, the Governor named Okoye an official Ambassador of Enugu State. He noted that the 25-year-old will serve as a role model for students in the state’s Smart Green Schools and help inspire a new generation of dreamers.
Governor Mbah also pledged to support the football academy project with land and invited Okoye to feature in the next edition of the Enugu International Marathon, which will attract elite runners from across the globe.
“At the heart of our vision is the youth – their talent, passion, and future. And with proud sons like Maduka Okoye, Enugu is truly rising,” the Governor concluded.
