Manchester City have announced the signing of centre-back Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig for €90m on a five-year deal, ending weeks of speculation over the defender.
Croatian centre-back Gvardiol emerged as a top talent in his time with German club RB Leipzig, helping them win the DFB Pokal in back-to-back seasons. He also became a regular for Croatia, finishing third in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and second in the 2023 UEFA Nations League.
Chelsea and Liverpool were interested in moving for the 21-year-old but Manchester City jumped to the front of the queue for the highly-rated defender. They have signed him up on a five-year deal until 2028 for a whopping €90m, a club-record sale for RB Leipzig and a club-record defender signing for City.
The Citizens begin their season with the Community Shield against Arsenal tomorrow as they look to build on their treble-winning 2022-23 campaign. Gvardiol becomes their second addition this summer after fellow Croatian Mateo Kovacic.
