Manchester United charged for failing to control players in defeat at Chelsea
Manchester United have been charged for failing to control their players in a 1-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Chelsea on Monday evening.
A number of United’s stars surrounded referee Michael Oliver after Ander Herrera was sent off in the 35th minute at Stamford Bridge and the club has now been punished for the incident.
Herrera was shown a pair of yellow cards for two separate fouls on Eden Hazard in the first-half and many, including Phil Jones, accused the Belgian of diving to get the midfielder sent off.
‘Manchester United have been charged for failing to control their players,’ an FA statement read on Tuesday afternoon.
‘It follows an incident in the 35th minute of the Emirates FA Cup quarter final tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday [Monday 13 March 2017].
‘The club have until 6pm on Friday 17 March 2017 to respond to the charge.’
The FA’s statement would suggest Marcos Rojo will escape retrospective action for a suspected ‘stamp’ on Hazard in the second-half.
