Manchester United double raid on Bayern Munich receives huge boost

Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Renato Sanches as Bayern Munich have reportedly informed the midfielder that they are prepared to sell him this summer.

According to Kicker, the German champions are open to offers for the 19-year-old, as well as Douglas Costa, in order to free up more funds for new signings during the transfer window.

The Portugal international’s departure is set to make room for Leon Goretzka, although Schalke are adamant that they will not sell the 22-year-old midfielder this summer.

Sanches, who joined from Benfica for â‚Ĵ35 million (£30m) last May, has struggled to make an impact in his first season in Germany, playing just 618 minutes in the Bundesliga and another 201 minutes in the Champions League.

Earlier this month, Kicker also claimed that Bayern will accept bids of £30m for Sanches, which will cover their initial transfer outlay.

Jose Mourinho has already admitted this season that he wanted to sign Sanches for United last year, but his late arrival at Old Trafford enabled Bayern to win the race for the Portuguese midfielder.

‘I arrived late, I signed in May, we started talking a week before, but completely out of the process. If I had arrived earlier, I’d fight for him,’ the United boss said last month.

‘Manchester United watched Renato many times and maybe I did it even more. In so much time at home, I watched many Benfica and Portuguese league games, I got to know the boy better with time.

‘He’s in a big club, in a league where he’ll certainly be the champion.

‘The club have players of very high level which belong to the structure, a little like Benfica.’
