Manchester United Suffer Embarrassing 1-0 Defeat to ASEAN All-Stars

Poor form continues for Amorim's side on post-season tour

Manchester United suffered another disappointing result as they were beaten 1-0 by the ASEAN All-Stars in their first match of a post-season tour in Kuala Lumpur.

Harry Maguire wore the captain’s armband, while big names like Casemiro, Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, Rasmus Hojlund, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Ayden Heaven, and Patrick Dorgu all started the game.

With the match still goalless at half-time, manager Ruben Amorim made 11 changes, bringing on Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Jonny Evans, and Amad Diallo among others. But the changes did little to improve things.

The ASEAN All-Stars scored the only goal of the match in the 71st minute through Maung Maung Lwin, adding more pressure on United and their under-fire manager.

This latest loss comes after a difficult season for the Red Devils, who finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham. Amorim had already described the campaign as “disastrous.”

Fernandes and Garnacho both played the second half, despite questions about their futures. Fernandes has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, while Garnacho is also attracting interest.

One small positive for United was that several academy youngsters got minutes on the pitch. The match was played in front of a large crowd of 72,550 fans – thousands of miles from Old Trafford.

United will now travel to Hong Kong, where they will play one more friendly on Friday to end their tour. The club is expected to earn around £8 million from the trip.
