Mane Listed as Senegal Name 28-Man Squad for World Cup

Senegal have included experienced forward Sadio Mane in their 28-man squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

The Senegal national football team star missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar because of a knee injury despite being named in the squad at the time.

Mane, who now plays for Al-Nassr, was also involved in Senegal’s controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco. During the match, some Senegal players walked off the pitch after Morocco were awarded a late penalty. Mane stayed on the field and encouraged his team-mates to return and complete the game.

Senegal eventually won the match through an extra-time goal from Pape Gueye, but later the Confederation of African Football overturned the result and awarded the title to Morocco after reviewing the incident.

Head coach Pape Thiaw has named several top stars in his squad, including Nicolas Jackson, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr in attack.

In midfield, experienced players such as Idrissa Gueye, Habib Diarra and Pape Matar Sarr were also included.

Thiaw must reduce the squad to 26 players before FIFA’s final submission deadline on 2 June.

Senegal will begin their World Cup campaign against France national football team in New Jersey on 16 June. They will then face Norway national football team on 22 June and Iraq national football team on 26 June.

The 48-team World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July.
