Martinelli now the 8th injured Arsenal star as Arteta confirms he is out for the rest of the season

Gabriel Martinelli has injured his knee and would not play any part in the remaining games of this season as Arsenal continue to push to avoid their worst ever season.

Coach Mikel Arteta confirmed that the 19-year-old Brazilian is just the fourth Arsenal player to be injured since the return of Premier League few days back.

Already, Granit Xhaka, Pablo Mari and Bernd Leno have been lost to injuries in Arsenal’s first two games, and Gabriel Martinelli who suffered an injury during a training session is the latest name on the injury list.

Early indications suggest Martinelli has meniscus damage, which will sideline him for the rest of the campaign.

Mikel Arteta said: “We had some really bad news again yesterday. In training, in the last action, he got hit by another player.

“He has damaged his knee and the doctor is assessing the extent of the injury but it is not looking good at all.

“We don’t know how long he will be out for but it is looking like months.”

Mikel Arteta also revealed that Bernd Leno who suffered an injury in club’s game against Brighton at the Amex suffered a minor ligament damage and could be back in just six weeks.

In total, Arsenal have eight players on the injury table namely: Cedric Soares, Lucas Torreira, Sokratis, Calum Chambers, Granit Xhaka, Pablo Mari, Bernd Leno and Gabriel Martinelli.
