Matsuyama makes history, becomes first Japanese man to win golf major

Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama secured the Green Jacket at the 85th PGA Masters championship in Augusta following his victory in the tournament. Matsuyama, 29, became the first Japanese man to ever win a major golf tournament.

Matsuyama’s feat comes on the back of a four year drought during which he failed to record a single professional win, before his achievement in Augusta has now made him the first Asian-born man to win the PGA Masters. His victory comes barely a week after another great moment for Japanese golf after Tsubasa Kajitani won the Augusta Women’s Amateur Championship.
