Mavericks end losing start to season, McCollum leads Trail Blazers

After five consecutive defeats, the Dallas Mavericks finally opened their account in the NBA this season, while the Portland Trail Blazers downed the Memphis Grizzlies.

At 0-5 heading into Sunday’s matchup, the Mavs ended their losing start with an 86-75 overtime win against the Milwaukee Bucks.

C.J. McCollum posted 34 points as the Trail Blazers trumped the Grizzlies 100-94.

The Utah Jazz and the Sacramento Kings were also among the victors.

 

MAVS SHUT DOWN NOWITZKI, STILL WIN

The news was bad for the Mavs prior to their hard-fought win against the Bucks.

Dallas announced veteran Dirk Nowitzki is set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future due to Achilles soreness.

Despite Nowitzki’s absence, the Mavs won thanks to a game-high 34 points from former Golden State Warriors star Harrison Barnes.

J.J. Barea added 21 points, while Andrew Bogut collected 16 rebounds.

 

HAYWARD MAKES SUCCESSFUL SEASON DEBUT

Appearing for the first time in 2016-17, Gordon Hayward scored 28 points.

Hayward was six-for-17 from the field, while he converted all 14 of his free throws as the Jazz defeated the New York Knicks 114-109.

 

KINGS END SKID

A run of four successive losses came to an end for the Kings on Sunday.

The Kings stunned the Toronto Raptors 96-91.

DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points and 14 rebounds in a double-double display and Rudy Gay posted 23 points.

MUDIAY LEADS NUGGETS

The Denver Nuggets beat the Boston Celtics 123-107 behind Emmanuel Mudiay’s 30 points.

The Los Angeles Lakers were 119-108 winners over the Phoenix Suns.

 

WARRIORS, THUNDER HEADLINE ACTION

The Warriors face the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, while the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Miami Heat. Among the other teams set to take to the court are the Los Angeles Clippers against the Detroit Pistons.
