Meet Nigeria’s newest Premier League stars Elijah Adebayo and Fred Onyedimma

- Members of Luton Town Promotion Playoff winning team

Elijah Adebayo and Fred Onyedimma are two players of Nigerian descent in Luton Town FC’s Championship playoffs winning squad.

SPORTSRATION presents details of this new Premier League bound stars whose name will get into the spotlight when the 2023/2024 English Premier League season gets underway.

ELIJAH ADEBAYO

Born on January 7, 1998, Elijah Anuoluwapo Adebayo is a striker.

Elijah Adebayo was born in Brent, England and is eligible to represent Nigeria and the Three Lions of England.

His career started at Fulham as an Under-9, Adebayo spent years with the London club on-loan to different lower division clubs.

From Slough Town, Bognor Regis Town, Cheltenham, Swindon Town, Stevenage before making a permanent transfer to Walsall in 2019.

Adebayo scored 18-times in 55 appearances for League two club Walsall to earn a transfer to Championship side Luton Town in 2021.

Since his move to Luton Town, Adebayo has featured significantly in 100+ games scoring 28 Domestic League goals for the Kenilworth Road Stadium based outfit.

In the playoff final on Saturday May 27, Adebayo was named in the starting XI and provided assist for Clark to score the opening goal at Wembley.

With the game level on 1-1, extra-time was required and in the 106th minute, the striker was replaced by J. Taylor.

He wears jersey number 11 at Luton Town.

FRED ONYEDIMMA

Wilfred Oluwafemi Onyedimma was born on November 24, 1996 in Lagos, Nigeria. At the age of three, his parents relocated to England with young Fred and his three siblings.

Fred grew up in Greenwich, Plumstead and Woolwich. He famously played local football alongside compatriot Alex Iwobi for the Blackheath district.

His journey into professional football began at the age of twelve when he was spotted by Millwall scout Andy Massey.

A Midfielder, Fred Onyedimma represented Millwall from 2014 to 2019 but went out on loan to Wycombe during this time before making a permanent switch in 2019.

In 2021, Luton Town swooped for the Nigerian midfielder on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

During the English Championship Playoff final vs Coventry town, Fred came on for Doughty in the 84th minute and played through the extra-time before Luton Town triumphed 6-5 on penalties at Wembley Stadium.

As it stands, Elijah Adebayo and Fred Onyedimma are heading to the Premier league with Luton Town.

With Luton Town set to play in the English Premier League next season, both players will hopefully get mentions with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

To indicate where their International futures lay, Elijah Adebayo and Fred Adebayo flaunted the Nigerian flag in celebration of the Premier league promotion at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2023.
