Melo admits to frustrations with Knicks
Carmelo Anthony admitted it has been difficult to “just remain sane and positive” as the New York Knicks’ woes continue.
Anthony and the Knicks have missed the play-offs for the past two seasons and they face the prospect of a third campaign without a post-season run.
And Anthony, who said he had no plans to leave the Knicks last month, gave an introspective look at life in New York.
“It’s been trying,” the nine-time All-Star said about the struggles this season.
“For me to just remain sane and remain positive through the entire situation is definitely challenging from that standpoint.
“It was a test to me if I could get through this and stay strong through this situation and whole process. It has been challenging.”
The 31-year-old continued with his candid discussion when answering a question about watching his best friends LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade have success.
“I don’t think envy is kind of the right word,” he said.
“I do look at my peers and say, ‘Damn, what am I doing wrong? I should be there.’ There was one point in time where they were looking at me like that. Made [the play-offs] 10, 11 years straight.
“Right now it’s kind of a rough patch for me. I’m trying to figure out a way to get out of it.”
Melo does have the right to waive his no-trade clause after this season, which is something that has been discussed ever since he signed his mega $125million contract before the 2014-15 campaign.
Even shortly after signing the contract he said he would be patient but, “how long I’m willing to be patient, I can’t really tell you that.”
