MFM FC 2 Rivers United 1: Stephen Odey’s brace takes Olukoya Boys to the top

Stephen Odey’s first half brace ensured MFM FC beat Rivers United at the Agege Township Stadium on Wednesday to go top of the Nigeria Professional Football League after 14 rounds of games.

MFM FC unbeaten at home in their last six games prior to today’s clash sought their 7th home victory and deservedly got the maximum points against Rivers United.

From the blast of the whistle The Olukoya Boys indicated their interest to win the match by pressing from every angle with Sikiru Olatunbosun in the heart of everything for Fidelis Ilechukwu side.

Their total football was rewarded in the 28th minute when a penalty was awarded to the home side following an infringement called against Rivers captain, Austine, for upending Olatunbosun in the box.

Stephen Odey converted the the penalty to increase his goal tally to 11th this season.

Rivers who were looking to reward their fans following thier poor display in the CAF Champions League equalized through Christian Welli in the 32nd minute.

With the game coming to an end in the first half, MFM FC’s Sola Brossa was fouled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot again and Stephen Odey converted from the spot to increase his tally for the season to 12th.

The second half didn’t produce any goals and at the end of 90minuts the scoreline remains 2-1 in favour of MFM FC.

MFM FC are not top of the Nigeria Professional Football League with 27 points from 14 games while Rivers are presently occupying the 18th posite on having accused just 14 points from 11 games played.
