Mfon Udoh Shines as Akwa United Beat Enyimba in Friendly

Former Enyimba striker and captain, Mfon Udoh was the star man as Akwa United Football Club of Uyo defeated Nigeria Professional Football League giant, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, in a friendly, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium training pitch, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Goals from Ubong Friday and Cyril Olisema sealed victory for the Promise Keepers, as both teams prepare for the commencement of the NPFL new season on Sunday.

Mfon Udoh, who returned to the Uyo based side from the People’s Elephant, provided assists for the two goals to condemn his former side to a defeat.

The NPFL record goal king, after his unveiling as Akwa United new number 9 in Uyo, said he has a twenty goal target for the season.

Seven of the twelve new players brought in by Akwa United started the match, including Brazilian Alberico Da Silva for Coach Rafael Everton’s side.

After the match, the Brazilian tactician said he is happy with the win and believes that Akwa United are ready for the season opener.

“I believe my team is ready for the league. Today we kept the ball on the ground to play, tiki-taka, transition with the ball was good. I am very happy; I pray that we should continue like that.”
On the important of the fans, “It is very important for the fans to come to the stadium. If there are no fans, there is no football. It is very important for the team, especially in difficult games.”

Akwa United opens 2018/2019 league campaign at home against Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri on Sunday.
