Mikel: Getting The Three Points Was Crucial
Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has stressed that all that mattered for his team was to get the maximum three points in their opening Group B match against Burundi in Alexandria.
Odion Ighalo was the hero for Nigeria on the night when he expertly finish a back heel assist from Ola Aina in the 77th minute to give Super Eagles the win in a largely tight contest.
Speaking after the game, Mikel who was substituted before the hour mark said: “We played well, we had most of the ball but we couldn’t break them down easily, reason why it was very crucial we got the three point today”,
“Next game will also be difficult, hopefully we will win, qualify and look forward to the next stage of the competition. We’re in a tough group but we will come good”, the team’s captain concluded.
The Super Eagles will play Guinea on Wednesday as they look to getting six points from two games.
