Mikel, Iheanacho, Abdullahi and Akpeyi out of Serbia friendly
Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, forward Kelechi Iheanacho, right back Shehu Abdulahi and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi are all out of the Intl friendly match against Serbia at the Hive, London
Speaking at a pre-match conference on Monday evening, Coach Gernot Rohr revealed that Iheanacho will miss the Serbia clash due to a fractured right hand while Abdullahi’s unavailability is due to a suspected hamstring injury.
“He (Iheanacho) is out but that is an opportunity for other players to come in and prove what they can do,” Rohr said.
The Franco-German also revelead unavailability of Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, due to visa hitch,
“One of our goalkeepers (Akpeyi) had a problem with entry visa but so far I’m pleased with the two we have here. Ezenwa and Uzoho,” Rohr said.
“At the moment I’m satisfied with the young one (Uzoho). Before he arrived we were a young team and he’s here now and it’s good for the future. Other players in the team are helping him to do well in terms of positioning during corners.”
Meanwhile, Captain of the side John Mikel Obi confirmed his unavailability for the match on twitter due to work permit issues saying he is gutted.
“Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I will not be on the field for our game v Serbia tomorrow. I am sad, and frustrated, but giving my full support to the team for another WIN! 👊🏿🇳🇬 #SoarSuperEagles”. Mikel tweeted
