Mikel Obi responds to Nicolas Jackson’s ‘Shut Up’ remark
Super Eagles legend Mikel Obi has responded to Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who recently told him to “shut up” after Obi criticized his performance.
Yesterday, SPORTSRATION reported that Jackson reacted strongly to Obi’s comments about his abilities. Obi, the 2013 AFCON winner, had questioned Jackson’s finishing skills, suggesting that he wasn’t yet good enough for Chelsea.
Jackson hit back with a stellar performance in Chelsea’s 6-2 victory over Wolves, scoring a goal and providing an assist for Cole Palmer. Following the match, Jackson also addressed Obi’s comments on social media.
In response, Obi discussed the matter on his ObiOne Podcast, as reported by Eurosport. “I really like the guy as a football player,” Obi said. “There’s something there as a football player. I haven’t said he’s a bad player at all. I’ve only said that his finishing qualities are not there. He’s a young boy, and all I’ve said is that he needs more experience to help him improve.”
Obi continued, “I would like to see my African brother do well in the Premier League. Chelsea is a massive club where we’ve had great strikers like Didier Drogba from Ivory Coast. I’d love to see him succeed as well. If he plays well, I will praise him, and if he needs to improve, I’ll definitely say it. And if he tells me to shut up every week, I’ll take that.”
Mikel Obi’s remarks indicate his support for Jackson’s potential, despite his critique. Jackson will be hoping to continue his strong form and secure his place as a key striker for Chelsea this season.
