Moffi shoots to top of Ligue 1 scoring charts as Lorient defeat Brest

Super Eagles ace rubbing shoulders with Neymar, Mbappe

Terem Moffi continued with his explosive start to the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season as he scored a brace to help FC Lorient claim a comeback win against Stade Brest. The 23-year-old has now equalled his goal tally from the 2021-22 season after only 10 games this season.

Knowing they needed a win to climb to second place in the Ligue 1 log, FC Lorient came into their away match against Brest without impressive young Burkinabe winger Dango Ouattara who was sent off in their last game.

The home side took the lead only 17 minutes into the encounter through former Rennes midfielder Romain Del Castillo who scored his second goal of the season for Brest.

It quickly became the Terem Moffi show shortly after as the Super Eagles star scored his seventh Ligue 1 goal seven minutes later. The 23-year-old showed his deadly finishing after he struck a brilliant pass from Laurent Abergel on a half-volley from a tight angle with his weaker right foot to draw his side level.

Moffi was once again decisive in the 53rd minute as he found the net after the ball broke to him in the box following some patient probing play by his teammates. The striker fired home from inside the box to give his side the lead for the first time in the clash.

Innocent Bonke was an 87th minute substitute for Lorient as they looked to steady the ship and hold onto the win. Moffi himself was withdrawn after 87 minutes of the encounter.

Terem Moffi now has eight Ligue 1 goals in only ten appearances this season, as many goals as he scored in 37 appearances in 2021-22. The striker is on top of the league’s goalscoring charts alongside Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. His side are only one point behind league leaders PSG after playing the exact same number of games this season.
