MoM Eden Hazard blames Alvaro Morata misses for Chelsea’s draw against Arsenal

The man of the match Eden Hazard says Chelsea should have beaten Arsenal in Wednesday’s thrilling Premier League clash but were let down by the profligate finishing of their striker, Alvaro Morata.

The £70 million summer signing from Real Madrid missed two one-on-ones though his teammates appeared to have bailed him out when Marcos Alonso netted late on to make it 2-1. Incredibly, Arsenal responded through Hector Bellerin in stoppage time, yet Morata was presented with yet another chance in the dying seconds – his third one-on-one – but hit his shot tamely straight at Petr Cech.

In an entertaining joint interview with Bellerin, Hazard said in no uncertain terms that the visitors should have taken all three points had they been more clinical. The Belgian told Sky Sports afterwards: ‘Maybe we should score more goals, we missed a lot of chances.’

Asked if they could have won at the death, he continued: ‘Yeah, I think the last shot should be a goal. ‘Just before that Alvaro missed the chance, Petr did a good performance today. ‘I think Petr is a great goalkeeper, it’s always hard to score against him.’ Asked again if a draw was a fair result, Hazard added: ‘No, I think Chelsea should win this game because of the chances we missed.’

Morata’s poor performance – which also saw him fail to intercept the pass from which Jack Wilshere opened the scoring – follows hot on the heels of another profligate display against Stoke.

On that day, the Spaniard was presented with two clear-cut chances and fluffed both, with Willian aiming a cheeky dig at him afterwards, and Morata has now only scored in one of Chelsea’s last seven Premier League matches.
