Morocco Coach Walid Regragui Not Afraid of Sack Ahead of Nigeria Clash

Morocco coach Walid Regragui has said he is not worried about losing his job if his team are beaten by Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will face Morocco on Wednesday in what is expected to be one of the biggest matches of the tournament. Both teams have impressed so far, and many believe the winner of this game could go on to lift the trophy.

The stakes are high at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium, with both sides desperate to reach the final.

For Nigeria, the match means more than just a place in the final. The Super Eagles are eager to make up for disappointing results in recent years. They are also still hurting from missing out on qualification for the 2026 World Cup, and none of the current players has won a major trophy for the country.

Morocco, on the other hand, are chasing their first AFCON title since 1976. Despite strong teams over the years, the Atlas Lions have struggled to make a real impact in the competition.

Expectations around the team have been high since their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup. However, they failed to live up to that promise in their last AFCON outing and are now keen to prove that their World Cup success was no accident.

With pressure mounting, questions have been raised about Regragui’s future, as he has been in charge since 2022 without winning a trophy. Still, the coach insists his focus remains on the team, not his job.

He said he is only concerned with selecting the best players, supporting them, and making the fans proud. Regragui added that he does not approach his work with fear of being sacked.

The semi-final is expected to be a thrilling contest, with both Nigeria and Morocco ready to give their all for a place in the final.
