Moses gets Super Eagles’ World Cup preparation to a winning start over PolandÂ
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday night defeated the Polish national team, 1-0 in an Intl friendly match played at the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, Poland.
Victor Moses’ 61st min penalty was all the Eagles needed to extend Genort Rohr’s unbeaten run in friendlies with the Eagles in a game which saw Joel Obi starts for Nigeria for the first time since 2014 and Troost Ekong captaining the side in the absence of Mikel Obi
At a sold out 42,000 stadium in Wroclaw, Nigeria started the most liveliest of the two sides as Iwobi had some joy on the left hand side but it was Poland who had the first sight of goal as Lewandowski hit the woodwork from range
It didn’t take too long until Poland will have the ball in the back of the net but Leon Balogun was on hand to clear off what looks like a good goal as both sides heads into the break goalless
Nigeria started the second with more intensity and were soon rewarded when Victor Moses was brought down in the box as Michael Oliver points to the spot for a Nigeria penalty, step up Moses who cooly slot home from the spot.
Lewandowski almost responded immediately for Poland but Uzoho was able to pull off a good save as both sides made strings of changes and it was the Super Eagles who maintain their ground to grind out a win.
Nigeria will take on Serbia the next Tuesday at the Hive, London as they look to continue preparations for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
