Mourinho gives Manchester United injury update ahead of Chelsea clash

Jose Mourinho says every Manchester United player who is fit will be involved in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Chelsea, including the returning Ander Herrera.

The Reds’ first game after the season’s second international break is a mouth-watering lunchtime encounter at Stamford Bridge (kick-off 12:30 BST).

Five players – Diogo Dalot, Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw – suffered injury problems during the break, while Jesse Lingard, Herrera and Marcos Rojo have all missed recent matches for United.

Speaking to MUTV’s Mark Sullivan before his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex on Friday, the boss suggested that midfielder Herrera will return to the squad against the Blues, after struggling with an ankle injury recently.

“The squad shape is that everybody available is selected,” he said. “[I had] a bit of everything [in the international break]. We work here with the players that stayed here. I went to an international match [in Serbia] as you know.

“Then we came back and we were waiting for the boys to come back from their national teams. Some came back in good condition and the happiness of some good results. Some came back with injuries, injuries that we were aware of when they happened and the national teams were correct in sending the boys back.

“We also had surprises with players that we had no idea that they were injured and they arrived with important injuries.”

When asked if any players who missed the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United a fortnight ago are able to return on Saturday, Jose added: “Players that are going to make an effort to be available for the team, like Herrera. He trained two days but, with the situation we have, is one step forward and he’s ready to help us.”
