Moutinho makes history in Wolves win at Manchester United

Phil Jones returns 712 days after last game for the Red Devils

Joao Moutinho has put his name in the record book after scoring the only goal in Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 win against Manchester United.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were by far the better team at Old Trafford as Bruno Lage led the secured a famous win against Manchester United.

Wolves who were unlucky not to score a goal in the first half had 15 shots against Manchester United – the most a visiting team has had at Old Trafford in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game.

Saiss curled a free-kick against the woodwork, with Moutinho then delivering the decisive strike as he fired into the bottom-left corner.

At 35 years and 117 days old, João Moutinho is the oldest visiting player to score a winning goal at Old Trafford in Premier League history.

Meanwhile, Phil Jones who got a shocking nod to start against Wolves played his first Premier League game for Manchester United since January 2020 – 712 days ago.

It’s the longest gap any player who hasn’t left the club (incl. loan spells) has had between apps for the Red Devils in the competition.

Manchester United who have played two less games are now 4 points behind Arsenal, 12 points behind Chelsea, 11 behind Liverpool who have a game at hand.
