My plan was to take Nigeria to Quarterfinal in Qatar – Rohr
... reveals why Ghana with fewer quality players beat Nigeria to the 2020 World Cup ticket
Former Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr has revealed it was his plan to not only qualify Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but to go as far as the last eight.
The German tactician was relieved of his duty a few weeks before the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after a repeated poor display from the Super Eagles.
Gernot Rohr qualified Nigeria for the AFCON 2021 and World Cup 2022 playoff but was never allowed to play the tournaments.
Despite his sack, Gernot Rohr has always been in the news talking about what happened during his time as the Super Eagles handler and his views on how the team can be improved.
In his latest interview with Brila shortly after Nigeria were eliminated in the World Cup playoff games by Ghana, Rohr expressed his disappointment at what happened and also revealed he planned on getting to the last eight with the Super Eagles.
He also mentioned that Ghana’s collective work as a team was better than Nigeria’s individual talents.
“Oh yes there was a big disappointment after this match yesterday(on Tuesday), said Rohr to Brila.
“We had all the hope that Nigeria would qualify and I believe that the better players are in Nigeria not in Ghana.
“But sometimes the collective work of a team can be stronger than the individual strength of the other team.
“My target was to go to the World Cup in Qatar and to go at least to the quarter-final and also to have a good image of Nigerian football like we had in the last five years.” He concluded.
