Naija Super 8: Chibuike nets winner as Lobi Stars come from behind to defeat Rivers United
Makurdi-based side secure commendable win
Lobi Stars picked up a stunning win over Rivers United, coming from behind to win 2-1 against the Pride of Rivers in their Naija Super 8 Group B opener at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Having come through the zonal playoffs via a penalty shootout win over City FC, Lobi Stars were up against Rivers United, who overcame Federation Cup champions Bendel Insurance in their playoff clash.
The Pride of Rivers drew first blood in the clash when Liberian winger Albert Korvah fired home via a deflection in the 31st minute to score his third goal of the competition.
Lobi Stars showed their great fighting spirit and levelled matters in the 71st minute when former Niger Tornadoes forward David Okoromi put a half-volley past Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima.
With virtually the last kick of the game, the Makurdi-based side secured maximum points as former Doma United striker Charles Chibuike took advantage of a goalkeeping howler to score the winner for his side.
Lobi Stars join Akwa United atop the group standings after the first round of matches in the Naija Super 8 Group stage.
