Naomi Osaka explains Her Australian Open Outfit
Naomi Osaka explained the inspiration behind her outfit after her first-round win over Ruzic at the Australian Open.
Asked about the look, Osaka said the design was personal.
“Nike let me design this one,” she said. “It’s modeled after a jellyfish. I’m so grateful that I get to do the things that I love. It’s really beautiful.”
Osaka added that the design includes details tied to her history in Melbourne.
There’s a butterfly on the hat. There’s a butterfly on the umbrella too,” she said. “It has to do with the Australian Open I won in 2021, which I guess is a long time ago.”
The four-time Grand Slam champion won her second Australian Open title in 2021. The butterfly motif references that run, while the jellyfish-inspired design is her own creative input.
