Lakers take Game 1 in Impressive Team Performance
The Los Angeles Lakers opened their playoff with a win, taking a 1-0 lead in their first-round series after an all-around performance in Game 1.
Luke Kennard led the scoring with 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 5-of-5 from three. LeBron James added 19 points, 13 assists, and eight rebounds, while Deandre Ayton contributed 19 points on efficient shooting along with 11 rebounds. Marcus Smart chipped in with 15 points and eight assists, and Rui Hachimura finished with 14 points alongside defensive contributions.
Kennard recorded the second-most points ever in a Lakers playoff debut with his 27-point display.
After the game, Smart spoke about the influence of James on the team.
“He elevates us.”
James, playing in his 19th postseason, reflected on his approach.
“I don’t predetermine what I’m going to do, the only thing that’s predetermined is how I prepare… I’ve been in every situation you’d ever imagine as a basketball player, so there’s nothing that can surprise me.”
He also shared a personal moment from the night.
“I was on the floor with my son. In a playoff game. That’s probably the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me in my career.
“It was so cool to be out there with him, and his brother, and his sister, and his mom in the building, and his grandma… my mom gets to watch her son and her grandson during the playoffs. That’s crazy.”
With a 1-0 lead, the Lakers now look to build on their strong start as the series continues.
