Nathan Tella gets first Super Eagles call-up as Peseiro names twenty-three for Lesotho and Zimbabwe games

Bayer Leverkusen winger, Nathan Tella has earned his first Super Eagles call-up after Jose Peseiro named him in his 23-player list for Lesotho and Zimbabwe games.

Nathan Tella had earlier announced his willingness to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria and will now get opportunity to wear the green white green.

On Thursday, November 9, the names of the invited players was posted on the Super Eagles X handle.

Also Invited for the games goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Olorunleke Ojo and Maduka Okoye.

Bright Osayi-Samuel, Chidozie Awaziem, Ola Aina, Kenneth Omeruo, Bruno Onyemaechi, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Jamilu Collins are invited as defenders while Raphael Onyedika, Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi fill the midfield spots.

In attack, Kelechi Iheanacho, Sadiq Umar, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi and Terem Moffi will anchor the teams goal hunt as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification journey begins.

Italy-based Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze headline the abscentees which also includes Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi.

The Super Eagles will begin their Group C 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a home game against Lesotho.

The game is billed for the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Thursday, 16 November, 2023.

On Sunday, 19 November 2023, the Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe on matchday two of the qualifiers inside the Amahoro stadium in Kigali, Rwanda.

A total of nine slots in the final tournament and one inter-confederation play-off slot are reserved for CAF teams.

The winner of each group will directly qualify to the World Cup, while the four best group runners-up will participate in play-offs to determine which team will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.
