Nathan Tella scores as Bayer Leverkusen stages comeback against RB Leipzig

Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella scored a goal in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-2 win against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday, Janaury 20, 2024.

The Bundesliga encounter was a significant test for the title ambition of current league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, as they faced a formidable opponent in RB Leipzig.

Despite missing star player Victor Boniface, who is sidelined due to injury, Bayer Leverkusen put in a solid their performance, Nigerian winger Nathan Tella coming of the bench to inspire a comeback.

RB Leipzig took an early lead in the match, but Bayer Leverkusen fought back, with Nathan Tella finding the back of the net early in the second half.

Amidst injury and International commitments, Coach Xabi Alonso deployed Czech Republic talisman Patrik Schick in attack and despite not scoring, the big-forward was a pain in the neck of the Liepzig defenders.

Tella cancelled out Xavi Simons opening goal before Lois Openda restored the lead for the hosts in the 56th minute. Jonathan Tah leveled scores again for Leverkusen in the 63rd minute in a highly entertaining Bundesliga fixture.

With the match deadlocked. Piero Hincapie stole maximum points for the visitors when he scored in stoppage time to spark wild celebrations from the Leverkusen bench.

It finished Liepzig 2-3 Bayer Leverkusen, a hard-fought win to underline their title credentials in the 2023/2024 season.
