Nationwide League: Blessed Stars thrash Sillina FC 5-1 to claim top spot in Uyo Centre
Blessed Stars FC produced a stunning display on Wednesday, April 30, to beat Sillina FC 5-1 in a Matchday 3 fixture of the 2025 Nationwide League One (NLO) at the Uyo Township Stadium.
The dominant win sees Blessed Stars climb to the top of the 12-team Uyo Centre standings with seven points from three matches, ahead of FC ONE Rocket on goal difference.
Victor Benjamin gave Blessed Stars the lead in the 13th minute with a thunderous strike. The advantage was doubled in the 27th minute when a dangerous cross from midfielder Isaiah Adeoye was turned into the net by a Sillina FC defender for an own goal.
Captain Imo Bright made it 3-0 before the break, finishing off a well-worked team move in the 40th minute to cap a commanding first-half performance.
Sillina FC attempted a comeback early in the second half with Iwekumo pulling one back in the 50th minute. But the momentum didn’t last, as Emmanuel Gotau restored the three-goal cushion for Blessed Stars in the 62nd minute with his second goal of the season.
Substitute defender Victor Ogbonna sealed the emphatic win with a well-timed header from a Prosper Okon set-piece, making it 5-1.
The result leaves Blessed Stars top of the table with 7 points, the same as FC ONE Rocket but with a better goal difference. P Sports, KMK Foundation, Ereme Jackson, Citiboi FC, and Ibom Youths FC follow closely with six points each.
Heaven’s Race Academy, Krane FC, and FC Sillina have three points apiece, while Plam Syrup FC and Willbross FC remain bottom of the log without a point.
