NBA Play-offs: Spurs, Hawks in control after game two wins

The San Antonio Spurs improved to 2-0 against the Memphis Grizzlies after triumphing 94-68 in game two on Tuesday.

Still without stars Mike Conley, Brandan Wright and Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies were no match as the Spurs took control of their Western Conference first-round NBA play-off series.

Recently crowned Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard, had 13 points, three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot for the Spurs.

LaMarcus Aldridge recorded 10 points and eight rebounds but Patty Mills led the way off the bench.

Mills shot 16 points, courtesy of four three-pointers in just over 19 minutes.

Tony Allen (12 points) and Zach Randolph (11 points, 12 rebounds) made it into double-digits for the Grizzlies, who host game three in Memphis on Friday.

The Atlanta Hawks made the most of a breathtaking start to see off the Boston Celtics 89-72.

Set up by a 21-point lead in a rampant opening quarter, the Hawks were too good in Atlanta as they earned a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference series.

The Hawks – who made nine of their first 13 shots – limited the Celtics to just seven points in the first quarter, the lowest-scoring opening period in a post-season game since the NBA introduced a shot clock in 1954.

Kyle Korver was instrumental early, especially beyond the arc, finishing with five three-pointers in his 17-point game.

Al Horford also posted 17 points, while Jeff Teague contributed 13 of his own.

The Celtics were led by Isaiah Thomas, who was four-of-15 from the field, as the series heads to Boston for game three on Friday.
