NBA Round Up: Popovich ties record, Curry leads Warriors past Clippers

It was a landmark outing for Gregg Popovich as the San Antonio Spurs won, while the Golden State Warriors trumped the Los Angeles Clippers.

Spurs head coach Popovich tied the NBA record for most career wins with a single franchise in San Antonio’s 102-86 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.

The Warriors got the better of the Los Angeles Clippers again, winning 133-120 on the road.

There were also wins for the Atlanta Hawks and the Washington Wizards.

 

POPOVICH POISED FOR RECORD

With win number 1,127, Popovich moved level alongside Utah’s Jerry Sloan.

The five-time championship-winning coach is now on the verge of standing alone.

Kawhi Leonard scored 19 points for the Spurs.

 

DIFFERENT DAY, SAME RESULT

The Warriors humiliated the Clippers on Saturday and they got the better of the Los Angeles franchise again on Thursday.

Reigning MVP Steph Curry led the way with 29 points and 11 assists, while Kevin Durant (26 points, 10 assists) also had a double-double.

Klay Thompson contributed 21 points of his own.

The Clippers had 31 points from Blake Griffin in the home loss.

 

HOWARD LEADS HAWKS RALLY

A double-double from Howard helped the Hawks emerge triumphant in his return to Houston.

Playing in Houston for the first time since leaving for the Hawks in the off-season, Howard had 24 points and 23 rebounds.

The Hawks had trailed by as many as 20 points, heading into the final quarter down by 13.

Tim Hardaway Jr added 33 points for the Hawks, while James Harden’s 41 was not enough for the Rockets.

WALL SINKS LAKERS

John Wall left it late as he led the Wizards past the Lakers in Washington.

Of his 33 points, All-Star guard Wall scored 16 in the final nine minutes to extend the Wizards’ winning streak to six games.

 

CAN OKC ARREST SLUMP?

Amid a three-game losing streak, the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. The Rockets are at home to the Chicago Bulls, while the Boston Celtics face the Lakers.
