Ndidi injured, ruled out of Algeria friendly

Super Eagles midfielder returns to England for evaluation

Super Eagles midfield anchor Wilfred Ndidi has left the Constantine camp of the Nigerian team ahead of their friendly match against the Desert Foxes of Algeria. The Leicester City ace picked up an injury that required him to return to England.

Ndidi has had a below-par start to the season, having been played out of position and featuring less prominently under Brendan Rodgers at the King Power Stadium. The defensive midfielder missed the back end of the 2021-22 season through injury and played no part in the Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe and Sierra Leone in June. The 25-year-old was hoping for his first taste of action under new manager Jose Peseiro.

Ndidi’s absence means that Super Eagles new boy Raphael Onyedika will get a chance to win the manager’s favour with the national team. Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka is another who could benefit from Ndidi’s misfortune. The Super Eagles will take to the pitch on September 27th in Oran.
