Neymar Tests Positive for COVID-19, Says Santos
Brazilian footballer Neymar has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss upcoming matches, his club Santos confirmed in a statement shared by local media.
The 33-year-old started feeling unwell on Thursday and was immediately kept away from all team activities. Medical tests later confirmed he had caught the virus, the club said on Saturday.
Santos did not say how long Neymar would be out and did not reply to questions from reporters.
Neymar was already going to miss Thursday’s match against Fortaleza because of a suspension.
That game will be Santos’ last before the Brazilian league takes a break for the Club World Cup in the United States, which runs from 14 June to 13 July.
Neymar’s future at Santos is still unclear, as his current contract ends on 30 June. He has missed several games this season due to injury.
