NFF Inaugurates League board, insists on NPFL not NPL until ratification by congress

The Nigeria Football Federation today Wednesday July 27 inaugurated the Nigeria Professional Football League – NPFL board and insisted there name change to Nigeria Premier League – NPL will not stand until it receives ratification from congress.

Performing the inauguration, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau charged the new Nigeria Professional Football League board members to reposition the league.

Gusau disclosed this during his opening remarks at the inauguration of the elected members of the NPFL in Abuja.

The NFF helmsman reminded the NPFL board that their appointment is based on their track record of success, which must be replicated in the league.

On the issue of change of name to the Nigeria Premier League – NPL , the NFF President insisted that the option must be tabled before the Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation for approval, and the necessary processes undertaken for a change to take effect.

He also clarified the status of 3 representatives of the club on the board, stating that any club chairman who looses his position as chairman of his club ceases to be a member of the board.

“I charge you to do more as your first tenure as Interim Manage Committee, IMC, was commendable. For the first time NPFL Champions got N100m. I urge you to do more to attract more sponsors “.

The newly inaugurated NPFL Board members are Mr Gbenga Elegbeleye (as Chairman), Messrs Dominic Iorfa and Daniel Amokachi, Dr Okey Kpalakwu, Mallam Suleiman Umar, Barrister Poubeni Ogun, and Mallam Muhammed Nasiru Sa’idu.

Others are Prince Davidson Owumi as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Barrister Ibrahim Danlami as Secretary/Legal Adviser.

The new board is expected to serve a two-year term in office.
