NFF President Says Super Falcons’ Win Can Inspire Super Eagles World Cup Dream

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, says the Super Falcons’ big win at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has given fresh hope to the Super Eagles’ World Cup journey.
The Super Falcons made a stunning comeback to beat Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 WAFCON in Rabat. They were 2-0 down but scored three goals to win the match and claim their 10th WAFCON title.
Gusau was clearly emotional after the match and praised the team’s fighting spirit.
“Our girls came back from the dead and showed the true Nigerian spirit. I’m proud of their courage, hard work, and love for the country,” he told the NFF website.
Gusau believes this victory will help boost the Super Eagles’ mindset as they aim to recover in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria is currently not in the top qualifying spots, with four matches left to play.
“This win will surely motivate the men. It reminds us that in football, and in life, nothing is over until it’s over,” he added.
The Super Eagles will next play Rwanda at home on Saturday, 6 September, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Then, on Tuesday, 9 September, they will face South Africa away in Bloemfontein—a key match that could decide their World Cup chances.
