The Carolina Hurricanes came from behind to beat the New Jersey Devils 3–1 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series. Jordan Martinook scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, sending the home fans wild. Frederik Andersen had a solid night in goal, making 25 saves. Shayne Gostisbehere and Martinook each added a goal to help Carolina move two games ahead in the series.
Toronto Maple Leafs 3–2 Ottawa Senators (OT)

The Florida Panthers made a powerful start to their series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, winning 6–2 away from home. Matthew Tkachuk was the star of the night with two goals and an assist. Nate Schmidt also scored twice, and Sam Reinhart added a goal and assist as the Panthers took early control in Game 1.
