NHL Playoffs Round-Up: Capitals, Jets, Stars and Kings Grab Wins on April 21
The 2025 NHL Playoffs continued with thrilling action on Monday, April 21, as four exciting games were played across both the Eastern and Western Conferences.
Capitals 3-2 Canadiens (OT) — Washington leads series 1-0
Alex Ovechkin was the hero for the Washington Capitals, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to seal a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference First Round series.
The Capitals took a 2-0 lead after two periods, but the Canadiens fought back in the third to level the game. Ovechkin, who finished with two goals and an assist, struck in overtime to give Washington the win. Goalie Logan Thompson also had a great game, making 33 saves.
Jets 2-1 Blues — Winnipeg leads series 2-0
The Winnipeg Jets made it two wins in a row against the St. Louis Blues, edging them 2-1 in Game 2 of their Western Conference series.
Kyle Connor scored the game-winner in the third period, while Mark Scheifele contributed a goal and an assist. The Jets now head into Game 3 with a strong 2-0 series lead.
Stars 4-3 Avalanche (OT) — Series tied 1-1
Colin Blackwell was the overtime hero for the Dallas Stars as they beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 to tie their Western Conference series at 1-1.
The Avalanche had led 3-2 after two periods, but the Stars equalised and pushed the game into overtime. Blackwell then stepped up to net the winner in front of the home fans.
Kings 6-5 Oilers — Los Angeles leads series 1-0
In a high-scoring battle, the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Edmonton Oilers 6-5 in Game 1 of their Western Conference matchup.
Phillip Danault scored the decisive goal in the final minute of the game to give the Kings the win. Danault scored twice on the night, while Adrian Kempe added a goal and two assists. Kevin Fiala also chipped in with a goal and an assist in a thrilling match.
The playoffs continue with more intense action as teams fight for a place in the next round.
